Each year fire-fighters in Wales attend over 2,000 accidental fires in the home. Most people can change something about their daily routine or simple things around the home to reduce their chances of having an accidental fire.

By calling 0800 169 1234 you can arrange for a representative from your local Fire and Rescue Service to visit your home. During their visit they will be able to provide advice on what you should do in the event of a fire and suggest escape plans suitable for your home. Advice may also be given on issues such as cooking and smoking safely at home if needed. Most importantly if you do not already have smoke alarms they will be supplied and fitted for you free of charge.

Why should I have a free Home Fire Safety Check?

The fire safety advice provided on this website is general. As every home is different your home may have particular risks or needs, for example, a member of your household may be a smoker or you may have small children, elderly or disabled family members.

Ok, but how do I get a free Home Fire Safety Check?

By simply calling the national freephone* number 0800 169 1234 you will be connected to your local fire and rescue service. Depending on your locality you will be required to leave your details either with a member of staff or with an automated messaging service. Someone will then contact you to arrange your Home Fire Safety Check. It’s as easy as that!

Your local Fire & Rescue Service will do their best to complete your Home Fire Safety Check as soon as possible. However, due to the current high volume of calls this may result in a longer wait.

So, who will visit my home?

Your home will be visited by a representative from your local Fire and Rescue Service. Understandably, if they are called to an emergency your Home Fire Safety Check may need to be rearranged.

The Home Fire Safety Check will not result in you receiving any sales calls or junk mail

What will happen?

During the Home Fire Safety Check your families’ needs will be assessed and any risks will be identified and specific advice given to you. If you do not already have smoke alarms fitted within your home these will be supplied and fitted for you both free of charge.

Your Home Fire Safety Check will only take up about 30 minutes of your time which is a small price to pay for peace of mind.
